Heyya…Nikon just posted a firmware update for the D3, here’s the link for both platforms. Here’s the IB PDF of the updates.

04.17AM: Despite my pleases of no emails in regards to the firmware, I’ve been flooded especially in regards to the always faithful internet rumors. I have loaded the firmware update into the 3 D3s I have and found no issues, the D3s work just perfectly. I like being able to make the AF sensor indicator brighter and with my latest project, having the AF Illuminator work with all focal lengths is a HUGE help. But please, don’t send me more examples of your issues, I don’t run a repair shop, I don’t write the firmware and I have no ability to fix it. If you feel you have a problem, I highly recommend you contact Nikon. Thanks!

04.17PM: It seems the saga continues and the mystery deepens. Rob G just posted this, it appears there are many plagued by the mysterious D3 Ghost. Rob G is saying you might want to hold off on installing the new firmware. I’ve yet to get my D3s to create the ghost, so there is something going on in either the installation or a combo of settings not yet determined either causing or not causing the problem.

PS…I’ve been asked a few times lately about the new 24PC-E lens. I have one, shot a couple of panos, been playing with it and will have a posting all about it and its use by this weekend. I can tell you, it’s one sharp puppy!

So, when you go on a NAPP Safari, how do you feel just after Joe’s & Moose’s presentation? Well, our participants walked out of the hall and collapsed. With all we throw at them in two hours, Joe & I were just happy their heads didn’t explode. After this, we went out shooting.

We had four models working the beautiful Polasek Gardens. We broke up into small groups with the four models, this is Tiffany who was very willing to sacrifice herself, posing precariously over the lake full of crocs. This is a 200VR shot with two flashles being the main lights.

This piece of art, talking about what’s behind Tiffany caught my attention, so I had Tiffany pose in front of it and Josh was stage left with a single gelled flash shooting it through a Lastolite Trigrip panel. Darn good fun. Tomorrow, Photoshop World begins and if you see me, please say hello!

We ventured out to Dead Horse Point…wow! First, with the 200VR I went after locale color and design (finished with Nik ColorEfex 3.0). Then, Kevin thought of and executed this killer flash shot of the Juniper (seen early this week on the blog). Kevin wanted to shoot before the sun came up so he gelled a flash, dialed in some comp and made magic. Now, thirty minutes later he showed me the image so I had to go and give it a shot. Hopefully Kevin will blog his, it’s MUCH better then mine. Much!

Now, after Joe & I messed with the tree with flash, sunrise occurred and nature took over. Wrapping up the morning was one of our students taking in the grandeur.
