It was one darn good, productive day doing what I love to do most, take photos. Heck, we even got a little wildlife photography in with a pretty Mule Deer buck. The light had gone for our project but not gone for general photography. The clouds were on their way out of town when I noticed them gathered in the gap between Basket Dome and Half Dome. The photo was a simple click and the finishing done with Silver Efex Pro. Perfect end to a perfect day!

The P6000 is just plain ol fun! I’ve not figured out the NRW file thing yet so haven’t been able to unlock the raw power but I’m pretty impressed with the Jpegs. These shots were taken at ISO 64 with -1 stop comp dialed in to bring out the mood in the clouds and color.

If I had to list what I like best, it’s the simple ease of use. There isn’t really much to the P6000 which makes pointing and shooting simple. The shutter lag is amaziingly little which is a joy. The LCD monitor is bright so composing in sunlight not painful. Image quality in the Jpegs would easily make a magazine page. While I have the GPS turned on, I don’t have NXViews to see the info. And the flash, that little thing does a clean job for a on camera flash.

Bottomline, it works for my P&S needs and I can make money from it’s files.

Ever had your mom or wife (or dad or husband) tell you, “That’s a great photo, you should sell it and become a professional?” Did you just shrug it off and think it’s not possible? Got an Epson printer sitting in your office/home and the prints coming from it just don’t match what you see on the monitor? Ever have a great set of images and killer story that goes with them you wanted to see published but just didn’t know how to make that happen? Got digital images here, there and everywhere and you just want to learn how to organize and protect them? Now YOU can do something about it!

Feb 05-08, 2009 RC Concepcion (the genius behind the Moose Gallery and so much more) and myself (that would be Moose) will be your instructors at our first You Can Do It Too workshop (held in our office/home). RC and I will bring 60yrs of photographic marketing and web expertise and put it in your hands. Everything from taking the photo, finishing the photo, finding the photobuyer, creating your blog and website to creating the perfect print, we will explode your head and send your heart into palpitations with all we have in store for you!

We’ll thoroughly go through all this and a whole heck of a lot more. You’ll be required to bring your camera gear, notebook, 30 images to project and share with the group, an article you wrote containing 1500 words and 10 additional images to illustrate it. And, you’ll need a LARGE notepad to write down all you learn. You will be shooting, finishing and preparing to make your photography pay for your passion. To register (only taking 8 and it’s already half filled) call 760.924.8632 (M-F, 9-5PST). If you need more info, this is not the right photographic experience for you. $895 for instruction only. Oh yeah, come rested, you’re in for LONG days!

We started off early this AM by simply heading to the pond that’s on the highway at Fish Camp. It’s a gorgeous little pond that is amazingly reflective. I decided to go with the artsy fartsy approach on this one photo.

It was finished by using Color Efex 3.0 Tonal Contrast and painting in the effect on only parts of the fir needles and some of the grasses, leaving everything else el natural. It was a good subject to warm up the shutters and get the mind focused, literally, on the project at hand.

We got home at 01:00 from our WA trip and by 07:00 I was on the road again. Working on a new project with Outdoor Channel, I had the opportunity to just drive by Half Dome in Yosemite. We had rain all day long with the clouds really not playing very nice. So, when I had a heartbeat of light on Half Dome, I made the click.

Now I was home long enough to see what Mr. UPS had left. One of the cool things was the new Nikon P6000. I shot with it all day long and when I’m not brain dead and can figure out how to work this new Raw format, I’ll put up some cool images I took with it.

Sharon and I had a couple of minutes to ourselves today so we checked out the a Museum of Glass. This is where you can, when you’re lucky, see the master Chihuly at work. He wasn’t there today, but we were there in time to see them work on this very cool piece.

We sat down in the Hot Shop and watched them create “Venus Flytrap with a Light Saber” (Hot Shop is above). They have a monthly contest where kids 12 and younger “design” a piece of artwork and the team of very talented glass artisians create it.

It’s a very cool because you’re sitting right there watching the whole thing come to life before your eyes.

These photos were just taken from the stands and I had to be jolted to take them I was so involved in watching them at work. You have the opportunity, I highly recommend you check it out!

Life is taking a toll on some photographers, we hate to see that. We’ve had a cancelation in our winter Yellowstone Safari. We’re just taking five shooters with me into the park for a once in a lifetime shooting opportunity. Click here for more info or just call the office to register.

Remove a tree, bring on fall color and now you can see what I saw in my heart at the time of capture. I’m just getting psyched for next week’s DLWS event in VT.

And when I was shooting boats, I needed direction so I just looked up.

I hope you have a great weekend and if you’re in the Seattle area, you join us at the NWCCC Conference. Whatever you do, take a picture of it and share it!

The light just sucked me in. The light was way beyond the range of the camera, especially the clouds. 7 frames, 11 stops and some post processing later, once again I can take in that sun streaming in over the ridge.

And then for a moment after the sun went down, the forest glowed.

The finishing shoot of our DLWS San Juan event was just gorgeous. We first went to a grove overlooking Friday Harbor where amazing light streamed through the canopy. This is a 7 image composite to hold the 11stops of light in the scene.

Then we headed over to South Beach to catch some great waves and nice clouds.

It’s been a great week with the folks of DLWS and our extended family, the DLWS Staff. Thanks one and all! Be sure to check out my good friends Laurie Excell and Kevin Dobler’s blogs for more great images!

The light came out, the water went glass and the shutters went flying!

I then turn to this shot, my favorite of the old building.
