Nikon has posted some pretty darn nice instructional videos on the D3 (D3 video screen above) and D300. They will give you a huge jump start on using these tools this weekend.

Sign me up for Moose News! Those of you who are “old” Moose News readers remember when it use to be a simple email I sent out. Then come modern times and the blog version of Moose News and RRS Feeds to keep up you up to date with new postings. Then came devices like the iPhone where you can easily receive emails on the road, easier than checking RRS Feeds. So my brilliant webmistress (who is responsible for our new cool D3 site) just found and added to the blog email subscriber. You click on it, type in your email address (which goes no further) and you’ll receive an email notification when the blog is updated. And right now, you can do it right here on this blog posting!

One question is flooding in, “how am I dealing with D3 files?” Real simple, DigitalPro 4.2 and Capture NX 1.3. I’ve been very fortunate to be on the Alpha & Beta for both of these programs so know firsthand just how killer a duo they are. Did you know that DigitalPro displays not just the Nefs from the D3/D300, but also photo info such as Flash Compensation and Picture Control (and a whole lot more)? Did you know that in NX 1.3 under Edit List > Base Adjustments > Camera Adjustments you access Picture Control where you can either change what you had set in the camera, or create a curve and load it into your camera?

It’s using these programs and knowing what they can do that makes it possible for me to get through my images so quickly and than, back out behind the camera again. You can check out either program for 30days for FREE…You should do just that! DigitalPro download / Capture NX download

With the D300 now in folk’s hands (lucky people…I’ve not shot one yet) and with the D3’s eminent release, I thought this would be a good time to make live our D3 site. What you’ll find here are just some of my early observations shooting with the D3. I really enjoy shooting with the D3, know you will as well! This is just a user report based on my first month of shooting with the D3. It’s nowhere near complete, I have more I want to add, this is just a start. We have more to post but that won’t happen until we simply have more free time to get the writing done and videos edited. We hope though this gets you excited and ready to shoot with the D3 once you have yours in hand. Enjoy!

Our boys are home from college for the holiday weekend and of course, the notebooks are out and the new things they’ve discovered are being shared. Now the majority of the time, it’s stuff that, well, only college kids would be into (like YouTube videos) but than they told me about this. It’s called Stumbleupon which is a website that helps you stumble upon other websites. You can just let it randomly stumble upon sites or tell it something specific like photography or photoshop or biology and than it stumbles on just those kinds of sites. It’s not only fun, but you can find some really cool things out on the www that you otherwise would probably never stumble upon. So, while you’re playing couch potato this weekend with all the games on, give it a whirl!

Photoshop CS3, Bridge & Lightroom have some updates posted. They take care of a number of annoying bugs that have been present since CS3s release. The easiest way to update is go to launch Photoshop CS3 > Help > Updates click OK, close Photoshop and let’er rip. You can find out some of the improvements by heading to John Nack’s blog. I’ve already updated and a couple of my pet peeve bugs are gone in printing which is really nice.

Have a great weekend!

Jake joined Sharon & I for our last day in MT for a day long shoot just inside the North entrance to Yellowstone. It was a monster day of shooting with 2104 images being filed tonight. The vast majority of images were of Rocky Mtn Bighorn Sheep. What I posted here is the weakest image of the day. I’m hoping Jake will post his killer full frame vertical head shot on his blog, it’s gorgeous! After photographing wildilfe with the D3 for two solid weeks now, I am totally blown away with the quality and technology it delivers. The AF system is such a vast improvement over the D2Xs it’s hard to believe! It’s simply a killer camera. Gotta get the backup made, lots of new images… it was a big day!

We’ve spent the weekend working in MT on a new, very exciting project you’ll soon hear about. In the process of working on that project, snow started to close in on us in the mountains. We decided to make a run to the plains and work Big Sky magic. Living up to its name and reputation, the snow storm circled us with the plains’ up draft opening the skies directly overhead. All this as the sun headed for the west, making appearances every now and then lighting up the speeding clouds. It was a magical afternoon of chasing the light and romancing the landscape (thanks Scriv!) I just love photography!

Our first Base Camp came to an end tonight and it was one great week. We want to thank Bill, Skip, Mo, Kim, Mike, Vince, Tom, Dave and the kid Andrew for making this first Base Camp the one which all others will be measured against!

We couldn’t have had a more fitting ending for the week than one of those famous Big Sky sunset.

Where has the week gone? Base Camp MT is just about a wrap, and what a week! We have one helluva great group of folks here, wildlife photographers I think you’re be hearing about in the future. We’ve been everywhere MT, seen great things, made some great images and talked all things wildlife photography all week. These images are just from today’s field trip.

We came across a bachelor herd of Bison and this particular bull was taking his non-breeding frustration out on the local sage brush. This ewe was part of a ewe band moving down the valley. A backyard dog sent it running across the slope and in that process, the ewe decided to leap over a small rock. The sunset tonight over the Yellowstone River was, well, just a magical way to finish a great day of shooting. The Base Camp staff wants to thank all our campers for joining us and making this a great week!
